What Is Isshi Sōden?

In the Japanese martial arts the term isshi soden refers to how a certain set of ideas, methods, and secrets are passed to the next generation, with isshi soden regarding a one-to-one transmission between a teacher and the student, in the martial arts.

Isshi Soden refers to the fact that the martial arts transmission *must* be direct and in person, as there is no other way.

How can one capture and understand the feeling of the martial arts unless one has directly experienced it?
