When
just starting out your martial arts journey, what should be the focus?
On
the path for a few years, what skills should you be polishing.
The
kihon.
In
the Japanese martial arts, the kihon refers to a set of foundation skills that
are the building blocks of the art that you study.
Martial
arts is about using the body in a certain kind of way, and the kihon- the
foundation movements show and teach your body how to move this way.
In
your own martial arts, identify and practice these basic moves ever training
session- never neglect the kihon!
They
are also important as they prepare your body for the transmission of the
martial arts, by learning to move a certain way, you can begin to receive the
transmission and feeling of the martial arts, and actually move that way…
…since
you have a solid foundation through the kihon.
