One of the skills in our martial arts training is to be able to read the air- kuki yomu. To be aware of not just the surroundings, but what is about to happen.
Knowing before it is time, and making sure you are not
there.
So how does one develop this ability?
Just keep training correctly in the martial arts, and
through the taijutsu movement and connection it will naturally cultivate.
However, there are a few things one can do to help be more
open to the possibility, small course corrections along the way.
The first is to keep an open mind.
All of the training is presented to the student, and over
time, one can decide what they believe or don’t believe.
BUT, human beings are capable of tremendous potential, so
when encountering some of the more hidden aspects of training, the best mindset
is to accept that it may indeed be possible. The moment one dismisses it, that
is that.
Leave the possibility open.
One of the ways to help cultivate reading the air in your
training it to take a walk outside.
Walk in nature, in natural surroundings, and be open to the experiences
and feedback around you.
Be present in the walk, with what is going on, without
thinking or analyzing it.
Be open to the feedback.
Of course, this is only a supplement to the training, one
needs to practice and cultivate correct taijutsu.
See you in the dojo.
