Quickest Way To Level Up your Martial Arts Ability

When starting the martial path, those first few month of training, we want to take full advantage of the enthusiasm and momentum that one has.

In these first few months there is the chance of massive gain in the martial arts.

How can we capitalize on it?

The basics.

Every martial arts, regardless of school, style or discipline has a collection of foundational movements. These movements for the DNA, the methods of how that martial art moves- how the martial art that you are studying moves.

The basics of the art of the laws of movement used by that art.

Identifying them, and working to learn them as quickly as possible sets the stage for massive gains.

How?

Martial arts is a physical skill, a transmission of how to do something martial. Just as dance, sports, and other physical based activities like yoga all have a particular way of doing things so do the martial arts.

What your teacher or coach is trying to share with you, how the teachings and transmission your art happens, all come through these basics.

They are the martial language that one needs to learn.

Now, that is not to say that there are not advanced lessons, or other training items that are less important, it’s just that the basic unlock all of it.

Identify, learn, and drill these basics and you will position yourself to be one of the best in the class.

Some example of the basics?

Footwork drills.

Body postures.

Punching & kicking.

Identifying and mastering these basics as a primary-first step will cut down your martial arts learning curve and position you for the next more advanced lessons.

Next question: how long should it take to get rank in the martial arts?
