In the martial arts, being a physical set of skills, much of the practice is centered on physical drills, techniques, and partner interactions. Yet, there is a complimentary side to the martial arts, a complete set of mindfulness skills that one needs to be exploring on and working on- these complimentary skills are the driving force behind the movement in the martial arts.
Awareness.
Awareness is one of these skills.
Awareness of the space around you, often called kukan in the
Japanese martial arts.
This space includes elements and things currently happening
regarding a martial arts interaction, and things that could happen in the
future moments.
Through the training both inside and outside of the dojo one
needs to be focusing on awareness.
