Three Ways To Learn The Martial Arts

How does on learn the martial arts?

As we take time out of our daily schedule to grow and train in the martial arts, naturally we want to do this in the most efficient way.

Here are three frameworks to look out for in class, in order to get the most out of your martial arts training.

1.       The martial arts are physical arts. Having the correct movement is important in not only learning the lessons, but also making the most gains. Pay attention to any physical correction offered in class by your teacher. Where are your feet? Where are your hands? How do they move?

2.       Verbal instruction is also important. As you practice in class, is your teacher or coach giving you points to work on outside of class? What other training drills should you be working on and exploring? Building that relationship with your teacher/coach, don’t be afraid to ask for action points.

3.       Practicing with as many people as possible. Distance, timing, rhythm, and balance are all laws of movement in the martial arts. People move differently, people move with different distances and timings. Mixing it up with different training partners so you have to adapt in the moment is important.
