Martial Arts & Artificial Intelligence (AI)

As a martial artists we are always looking for momentum and ways to level up our martial arts movements. Training, workshops, seminars, and video media are great ways to build on your school, style, or discipline- so what about artificial intelligence (AI)?

Can we use the recent AI bots to assist us to be better martial artists?

What if you could ask any question about the martial arts?

A virtual sensei.

AI has been great is looking up and understanding certain terms in the martial arts, it has done an excellent job of replacing having to explore a number of books and it has even done a pretty good job at communicating the movement list of certain kata, but what about as a supplement for training?

I have been exploring AI as a way to help improve process and movement, by asking it for corrections based on mistakes that I make in the martial arts as I training.

What should I do to correct myself?

The challenge here is first that I am aware of the mistake that I am making in the movement, and am able to capture that mistake in words so I can ask the AI chat bot the questions.

Second is the results- are they really true and do I trust them?

Given that in any arts certain points are secret (kuden), how would AI have any idea what it is communicating about, even if it sounds good.

For now, the results are just not there, but I do see it as an academic resource when one is researching or looking up static information about the martial arts, but as for the movement- component, not yet, or perhaps not even.

Thoughts?

The aim of the Bujinkan Shinmyoken Dojo (school of the life giving sword) is to understand nature and the movement of being zero through taijutsu- martial ways of using the body. The school exists to create and transmit this feeling and method through the experience of isshi soden.

Located in Westchester New York, the Bujinkan Shinmyoken Dojo is a martial arts training group founded in 2005 with the aim of coming together as martial arts friends to study the Japanese martial arts of Masaaki Hatsumi through the movement lessons of the Bujinkan Dojo.

Training is supervised by Fred Feddeck who has been studying Bujinkan Budo Taijutsu since 1993.

Classes are held on Saturday Mornings from 9-11 AM at a local park in Yonkers New York easily accessible by car, train, and bus. Additional training times are held for workshops and seminars each quarter.

Questions, feedback, and inquiries may be directed to the group here: bujinkanshinmyoken@gmail.com.
