Bujinkan Bikenjutsu: Secret Sword
How would one explain the sword work (kenjutsu) that we practice in the Bujinkan dojo?
Naturally, the only answer would be to come and experience the
sword movement oneself, the transmission of isshi soden. Yet, in working through
the movement or perhaps exploring Japanese sword arts in general perhaps it
would be beneficial to the martial arts community to have some ideas to look
out for.
The first adjustment would be the entry point of the
Bujinkan dojo and how one aims to use the sword- taijutsu is used to power the
sword, not the sword itself- kenjutsu. There is not sword fighting in the movement.
Perhaps this is why it could be called bikenjutsu and not
kenjutsu?
Second to this would be the idea of control, not cutting
with the sword, again not using it like a sword, but rather an extension of the
body.
In this way any sword can be used in practice.
