Martial arts is not an academic study, and as a result the learning model is perhaps a bit different when compared to what we are used to in the west- using the traditional educational model of school/college/trades.
Going to martial arts class is only a small part of the puzzle in terms of the learning model.
In class one has movement corrected, the feeling of the martial arts passed, and is introduced to new material to study.
But the real *learning* happens outside of class.
Training in the martial arts on your own.
Working on the basics- the kihon in the Japanese martial arts of your art, practicing the lessons found in class.
Working hard on the lessons, so that when you return to class, new transmissions can be given.
