Bojutsu is the Japanese art of using the six-foot stick. With the bo, the aim is to manipulate distance and timing using the length of the stick. What appears far is close, and what appears close is far away. Subsets of bojutsu training also include using the five-foot stick (jojutsu) and the three-foot stick (hanbojutsu).
Bojutsu skills covered include:
Kamae: Postures, ways of holding the stick to chance the distance and timing.
Uchi Gata: Ways of striking, hitting, and thrusting with the stick.
Kata: Formal training patterns communicating lessons of strategy.
