With out bojutsu (6-foot stick) classes we are fortunate to be able to train in the park with wide open spaces.
Swinging the stick around, passing it from side-to-side, strikes and the kihon movement.
With lots of space they are easier to see, long big movements- useful in understanding angles and distance.
From there we move to the forest near the park- closer to using the stick in a fluid and tactical environment. Navigating it around trees, rocks, and working with the distance and timing of a training partner.
From there we move to an even smaller space, a space where using the bo is impossible. Using it in spaces where one would not expect, creativity of flow and kyojitsu.
