The kusari fundo- weighted chain is a historical training tool that we explore in our Bujinkan taijutsu practice.
Three feet of chain, connected to a weight at each end, it was historically used by the samurai.
In our training a real metal kusari fund is never used due to the risk of injury.
A safe and soft padded cord is used.
The kusari fundo teaches the unified use of the body, moving the upper half which swings the chain along with the lower half- footwork at the same time.
The chain is used to capture, trap, and pin/throw using taijutsu movements.
Insights regarding distance and timing can be found in using the chain.
