Training outside in nature is an important part of of our martial arts taijutsu methods.
Building an immovable spirit- fudoshin is cultivated through the changes in the seasons, along with an awareness of how things slowly change over time without the appearance of actual change.
The signs are there for those who can see them.
Winter is in full force here in the Northeast and we are at almost coldest point in the year.
The seasons also influence the ground which changes our ukemi- rolling and receiving a training partner.
In the cold of winter the ground can be harder compared to concrete.
Footwork also changes, sometimes the steps and shifts of weight have to become smaller to prevent slipping or falling…
…along with additional ukemi to be ready just incase one slips and falls while performing waza.
