Shoshin: Martial Arts From The Beginner’s Heart

Shoshin refers to the heart of a beginner, and it is from this starting place that we ideally begin each martial arts training session.

The idea that in class one is there for correction and for receiving the transmission.

The idea that as the lessons are shared and practiced, to approach them from the mind of shoshin means to not think or challenge them. Practice them as demonstrated by the teacher and the senior students as this is budo and not an academic study up for debate of self inflation.

It is *after* class that one reflects and tries to put the lessons in place on this martial arts journey of ours, *after* class is the time to challenge and ask questions of the senior students.

Many want to challenge the teacher- what is the point for coming to a coach for training in the first place?
